64–128g ram in-use cases = (VMware fusion, docker, kubernetes(Openshuft CRC/minikube/Kind), any ram heavy concurrent processing throughout (collatz). When the 64g mbp came out in Nov 2019 – right after the July 2019 32g upgrade (there was a reason apple did a double upgrade from 16 to 32 to 64g within 2 quarters in 2019) – so those of us relying on the Lenovo p52/p72 for large memory vm/docker deployments could move all our experiments back to the mbp. The p17 is now at 128g so apple has 128g in the queue for 2022.
